Does Night Audit upload my Shift At Midnight save file anywhere?

No. The file is read and edited entirely in your browser using JavaScript's File API. It is never sent to a server. Closing the tab discards everything.

Will this corrupt my Shift At Midnight save?

Why can't I edit NPC names or world object positions?

Those fields are variable-length text or are tightly linked across multiple parallel arrays by index. Editing them safely would require rebuilding the file rather than just patching bytes in place, which isn't supported yet.

How To Use It

Close Shift At Midnight, then find your save at %appdata%/../LocalLow/Kwalee/ShiftAtMidnight/SaveGames (open Run, paste %appdata%, go up one level into AppData, then LocalLow → Kwalee → ShiftAtMidnight → SaveGames).
Copy the save file somewhere safe first. This is a fan tool, not the developer's, so keep a backup.
Drop the copy above, edit whatever you want, hit Print New Save.
Replace the original save file with the downloaded one, using the same filename.
Launch the game and load your save.

Questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. This is just a webpage. Drop your save file in, edit it, and download the new one. Nothing to install.

Does my save file get uploaded anywhere?

No. It never leaves your computer. Everything happens right in this browser tab. Close the tab and it's like it never happened.

Will this break my save?

It's built to be safe and has been tested carefully. Still, this is a fan-made tool, not made by the game's developer, so make a copy of your save first, just in case.

Can I use this to pick which ending I get?

Not directly. The save keeps a list of everyone you've killed, and one name on that list matters: killing Sheriff Clyde by accident locks you out of all three endings. If he's on your list, you can remove him here to get that chance back. We haven't found where the game actually stores which of the three endings you got, so this tool can't set that for you yet.

Where do I find my save file?

Press the Windows key + R, type %appdata%, and hit Enter. Go up one folder, then open LocalLow, then Kwalee, then ShiftAtMidnight, then SaveGames. Your save files are in there.

Why can't I rename people or move objects in the world?

Those are stored in a trickier way than everything else, and editing them wrong could break your save. We'd rather leave them out for now than risk that.

It says it can't read my file. What now?

Make sure you picked a real Shift At Midnight save file (it's the one named like 1save.data). If it still won't load, try grabbing a fresh copy from your SaveGames folder.
